About International Orders, Customs, Import Duties & Taxes

  • When ordering a product(s) from House of Cheval .com you, as the purchaser, are responsible for assuring the product may be imported to your destination according to your country’s laws.
  • The recipient of the parcel is the importer of record and regulations and laws of the destination country must be complied to.
  • Orders shipped outside of South Africa may be subject to customs duties, import taxes and fees levied by the destination country.
  • The recipient of an international shipment may be subject to such import taxes, customs duties and fees, levied on arrival of the shipment into the country.
  • Additional customs clearance charges must be fulfilled by the recipient; House of Cheval has no control or prediction over these fees
  • Customs policies vary according to country and area; you can find out more by contacting your local customs office.
  • Delays in delivery time estimates may be caused subject to customs clearance procedures.
  • Some countries’ customs offices require the importer of record to provide a specific proof of identification before the shipment may be released. This may be a Unique Identification Number, CPF, or Tax ID.


About the Deposit on Import Fees

House of Cheval offer an estimation of import fees (customs duties, taxes and fees) during checkout as well as customs clearance for select eligible destinations on your behalf.


Fee Calculations

When ordering products from House of Cheval for shipment to destinations outside of South Africa and select countries, an estimate of the Import Fees will be levied on those products in your order.

On your authorisation, these estimated Import Fees are paid by the third party carrier or agent on your or the recipient’s behalf to the appropriate destination country’s authorities. This is called the Import Fees Deposit).

It is the responsibility of the importer for payment of these import fees and these fees are levied according to the destination country’s laws.

The selected shipping method will determine the Import Fees Deposits.

The Import Fees Deposit is purely an estimated taxes and duties’ figure that is not an actual calculation. The regulations according to customs and tax rates of certain goods may vary between the date of estimation of the duties and taxes and the actual import date into the country or region.

The duties and taxes calculation is subject to the shipping destination's customs regulations. This calculation is typically based on the product price and shipping, before any discounts or offers are applied. This allows provides an accurate import duties and taxes figure for the shipping designations’ authorities so they may base the fees on the actual value of the goods.

For items sold by House of Cheval sellers, the individual seller’s policies take priority.

If the actual Import Fees are less than the Import Fees Deposit estimated and collected by House of Cheval on the recipient’s behalf, the purchaser will automatically be refunded the difference via the payment method used for the order. The purchaser or recipient will be notified via email for the refund amount. The refunds will be processed once House of Cheval has received the carrier invoices with the actual Import Fees’ figures.



The cost to ship items from each category of product to international destinations is according to the product, its shipment, and shipping option selected.

The terms above are also applicable to the delivery of any replacement product(s). If you are returning a product to House of Cheval, you will be the exporter from the original destination of shipping and it is your responsibility to comply with all export laws of that country or regions.


Returns / Refund Policy

House of Cheval are not held liable for any damaged goods purchased by customers. It is the responsibility of the “Seller” registered on the site to ensure the quality of their goods. House of Cheval will assist in exchanging the goods or refund.


- For a standard return, to return an ordered product:

  1. Go to My Orders under your House of Cheval profile
  2. Select the order and press the Return or Replace link.
  3. Choose the product(s) you would like to return, and select a reason for the return.
  4. If applicable (dependent on the seller’s returns policy), choose if you would like a refund or exchange.

For products purchased from a House of Cheval Seller, a Submit return request will appear. The seller will then review the return request before a refund or exchange is made. Should you receive no response within two to 3 working days, you may submit a “Guarantee” request.


- Select your preferred return method:

Kindly print the “Return” label for and the authorisation document from the seller.

Attach the return label (if authorised) and your items for return. Pack your item securely, following the instructions sent to you when you requested your return from your House of Cheval profile.

The status of your exchange or refund may be viewed under Your Orders.


- What can be returned?

You may return most new, unopened items sold and fulfilled by Amazon within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. During the holidays, items shipped by Amazon between November 1st and December 31st can be returned until January 31st.


- Costs of Return

The return shipment is free to the customer depending on the “seller” of the goods. Should the reason for return not be down to a fault of House of Cheval, the fees for returning the good(s) are deducted from the customer’s refund.


- Time period to return a good or request a refund

This is dependent on the supplier’s policy but a standard 30 days will fall into place should the seller not have a window of return set.
